Summer 2 Topic VILLAGES

This is a Geography topic.  We will be starting our topic off by having a walk around High Legh village.

National Curriculum objectives:

understand geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom, and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country

use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents

Our next Read to Write unit uses the vehicle text 'Rapunzel' by Bethan Woollvin

We will be writing our own traditional tale and instructions based on this book.

When we return to school after the half term holiday we will be sitting the National Phonics test.  This is an assessment that takes place every year and covers all the letters and sounds we have learned since Reception.

The results from this assessment indicate if a child needs support with their phonics going forwards.

The children will be tested individually by myself or a Teaching Assistant.  They will read 40 words, applying their phonics knowledge to each one.  Some words will be real words and some words will be made up.  The children do not need to identify if the word is a real one or not, but they will need to sound the word out, recognising the phonemes, and then blending them together.
