Our topic this half term is...


Design and Technology

Mechanical Systems: Pneumatic Toys



We will design and create a toy with a pneumatic system, learning how trapped air can be used to create a product with moving parts while also building on our design knowledge. We will then be introduced to thumbnail sketches and exploded diagrams.


We will cover the following National Curriculum Objectives:


• Use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose.

• Generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches and exploded diagrams.

• Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks accurately.

• Investigate and analyse a range of existing products.

• Evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work.

• Understand how key events and individuals in design and technology have helped shape the world.

• Understand and use mechanical systems in their products.





This term, our writing will be based on the book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. We will be writing an approaching threat narrative and an explanation text.




This half term, we will be covering time, shape and statistics.
