Our topic back after PGL is history on the 

Maya

Our topic will start with locating Maya on a map and looking at Google Earth images in more depth. We will follow this by using Augmented Reality to bring some artefacts to life and making Maya calendars.

As historians we will be thinking of and investigating the following questions:

Who are the Maya? Where did they live?

 What are the main occupations of the Maya today?

What did John and Federick rediscover in 1839?

What do the lives of the ruins of Chichen Itza tells us about the Maya?

Why do historians know so much about the ancient society?

Why was Pok-a-Tok more than just a ball game?

Why did the ancient Maya leave the jungle city?

There is a fantastic documentary on National Geographic by Albert Lin, that follows archiologists making new discoveries in the Ancient Maya world.

Synopsis:

National Geographic Explorer Albert Lin ventures into the Guatemalan jungle to explore how a new high-tech treasure map is revealing tens of thousands of ancient ruins. Now, dozens of archaeologists are heading on a voyage of discovery, exploring lost ruins for the first time in 1500 years. And what they're finding is rewriting the history of one of the world's most mysterious ancient civilisations - the Maya.

For our class text we will continue to read The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

We will be starting a new writing unit based on the books below. We will be writing a first person description, suspense narrative, balanced argument and an information text. Our maths work this term will follow the White Rose scheme of learning, we be starting our unit on additio/subtraction/multiplication and division.
