Remote Learning - Week 1

Phonics

All phonic lessons will be completed via zoom at 9:15am - Reception children will be continuing their phase 3 phonics and will be virtually practicing their blending and segmenting together. If you intend to do extra work on this, then the website - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ is great. Games such as 'Dragons Den' and 'Buried Treasure' are great for children to use to recap on their learning.

Maths

Maths will take place each day at 9:30am, where children will use the resources below to complete an activity after watching a video from our White Rose curriculum which introduces our maths learning for each day. The link you will need for this video can be found below as well:

This week Reception will be starting our new focus 'Alive in 5', where, as a class, we will be introduced to the number 0.

Literacy

Literacy will take place after break at 11:00 am and again, will consist of a short 10-15 minute zoom lesson taught by myself and then will be followed up by an activity which can be completed whilst you are at home. For the next 2 weeks we will be focusing our learning on the books written by the Author Eric Carle and we will explore these together. Please, remember to arrive to the zoom session 5 minutes before and email me any work which your child has completed as this could end up on our TopsSpot of the Week.

Topic

This term we have moved onto our new topic 'Frozen Landscapes'. Our topic sessions will consist of a 10-15 minute input where the class will discuss the focus of the lesson, before they are then sent off to complete the activity which can be seen in the table below. Where there is the timetabled slot for PE, children will be encouraged to find a safe space in their house and then complete a PE video which I have set for them. This will not be done on zoom.

Free Time!

This time has been given for children to choose what they would like to do at the end of the day. Below are a list of ideas which I would encourage your child to do during this time:

  • Reading
  • Handwriting Practice
  • Topmarks/PhonicsPlay
  • Learn a new skill
  • Help your parent/s at home!

During this allocated time, on Wednesday and Friday each week, Reception will have a short catch up zoom call where children will be given the opportunity to tell each other about their day and what they have enjoyed doing the most whilst at home.
