Music

Subject Aims Values and Purpose

At High Legh we believe that all pupils are entitled to regular access to listening to and making music, including singing. We believe that music provides children with a rich source of cultural, emotional and personal pleasure, and that in school it should be an enjoyable experience - the beginning of a lifetime of interaction with music, enabling each child to make informed choices both as a participator in music making and as a listener.

Enrichment

The children at High Legh have the opportunity to play a brass instrument inYear 5 and 6.  The instruments range from cornets, trombones, euphoniums, baritones and horns.  Each week the children have an hour lesson with 2 tutors from Love Music Trust.  These lessons can be followed up by private lessons from Mr Harrop a music tutor.

Peripatetic music lessons are also available in school from Mrs Gerrard, who can provide lessons in playing the flute, mini flutes, piano, guitar and recorder.  All these lessons are paid for by parents.  In addition, Mrs Dempsey leads singing in school on a Tuesday afternoon. The songs are selected to cover aspects of the social, moral, spiritual, cultural curriculum and school ethos. We attend our local church for Christian festivals; every other year we attend Young Voices in Manchester (this is provided as an after school activity) We have also taken part in Pop UK.  As a school, we have held Musical Extravaganza evenings, where we show off our talents - even the staff!
