Catch up funding

For the year 2021-22, our allocation of £2030 is recorded in our pupil premium strategy.

In November 2020, the government announced catch up funding to support children and young people. As a maintained primary school we are eligible for the money and will receive £80 per pupil from Reception up to and including Y6.

Funding will come over the year and we will receive about £12,400 in total. This is based on our pupil numbers in the October 2020 census. We will use this funding for specific activities to support all our pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the curriculum expectations for the next academic year.

We have chosen to use our funding in a way that suits our children’s and staff needs and circumstances and will use it to fund specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.

We have based our spending on the Education Endowment Foundation Paper ‘The EEF guide to supporting school planning: A tiered approach to 2021.’

In particular we have taken on board that the best available evidence indicates that:

Great Teaching is the most important lever schools have to improve outcomes for their pupils. This was true before the Covid-19 pandemic and it will continue to be vital throughout this academic year. We have prioritised high quality instruction for children and have ensured learning through scaffolding, modelling and questioning children in lessons. We therefore decided that if we were to go into another lockdown then we wanted to ensure that our teachers could still teach our children remotely in these ways.

Target Academic Support and Personalise Learning; we want every child to be supported through catch up. We have done this in a number of ways such as  through an app called Century which assesses each child and provides online learning on the concept they need to learn as well as at the level that they need to be taught. We have also bought into reading interventions to support all children with their reading as well as devices to support them to use these apps.

Wider strategies are also important such as supporting parental engagement with learning at home.
