Spring Term - Topic 3

 

Our new topic is...

 

Design & Technology - Structures: Castles

During this topic the children will:

  • Draw and label a simple castle that includes the most common features.
  • Recognise that a castle is made up of multiple 3D shapes.
  • Design a castle with key features which satisfy a given purpose.
  • Score or cut along lines on the net of a 2D shape.
  • Use glue to securely assemble geometric shapes.
  • Utilise skills to build a complex structure from simple geometric shapes.
  • Evaluate their work by answering simple questions.

We will be covering the following National Curriculum Objectives:

  • Design -  use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose, aimed at particular individuals or groups.
  • Make - select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing], accurately
  • Evaluate -  evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work
  • Technical knowledge - apply their understanding of how to strengthen, stiffen and reinforce more complex structures

This term our writing will be based on the book 'Return' by Aaron Becker

We will be writing a setting narrative and travel report.
