Our new topic is...

Cooking and Nutrition:
What could be Healthier?

Our new Design and Technology topic is a cooking and nutrition unit where the children will cover the following national curriculum objectives:
- understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet
- prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques
- understand seasonality, and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.

The children look at the farm/field to fork process and in particular, where meat comes from and the importance of animal welfare. The children will do some taste testings before they then look at how they can adapt a recipe to make a meal healthier, for example substituting ingredients. The children will then design their own recipe, before cooking it and designing jars and nutritional labels. We will be kick starting the topic with a trip to Tatton Park to engage the children in the farm to fork process.

Maths

We are working on a maths unit covering Decimals including adding and subtracting decimals, as well as multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.

English

Our new focus text is The Lost Book of Adventure - from the notebooks of the Unknown Adventurer compiled by Teddy Keen.

Our writing purpose is to narrate and our first writing outcome for this text is an adventure narrative.
